About Solana (SOL)
Solana is a fast, low-fee blockchain for applications and tokens. Its coin, SOL, pays the small network fee for every transaction, and it is also staked to secure the network. It was designed by Anatoly Yakovenko, whose 2017 whitepaper introduced Proof of History, and its main network launched in 2020.
How does Solana work?
Solana combines proof of stake with Proof of History, a cryptographic clock that lets validators agree on the order of transactions quickly. Blocks arrive in a fraction of a second and fees are tiny: each transaction pays a small base fee per signature, plus an optional priority fee, in SOL.
Tokens on Solana, including USDC, wrapped assets such as wLKY and many memecoins, follow the SPL token standard. A token can have a mint authority that can create more of it; checking whether it has been revoked is a core part of judging a token, as described in token issuance and mint authority.
Why you need SOL
