Passkey recovery lets you use Face ID, Touch ID or your device's screen lock to help restore your wallet if you lose a device. It is optional, and it never replaces your saved backup.
How it works
A passkey is a login credential stored by your device or password manager, such as iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager. When you link one, your wallet's backup is wrapped with it, and the server stores only the wrapped, unreadable copy. To recover, you sign in with the passkey on a new device and the backup is unwrapped there.
What you need
- A browser or device that supports passkeys with the PRF extension. Not every provider can protect wallet backups.
- A synced passkey if you want recovery on another device. A passkey that lives only on one device won't help if you lose that device, and the wallet tells you which kind you have.
- The right site. Passkey sign-in works on wallet.scryptwallet.io.
Setting it up
Open your profile and choose Passkeys, then add one. You will be asked to approve with Face ID, Touch ID or your screen lock. The wallet then shows a recovery health checklist and a Test recovery option that checks the backup can be opened without changing anything. You can rename or remove a passkey at any time.
Limits
1. It is not your only backup. Keep the backup file you saved when you created the wallet.
2. Provider support varies. If a provider can't protect backups, the wallet says so instead of linking it.
3. Update after changing keys. If you add or replace keys, refresh your passkey backup so it includes them.
