Terms of Service
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and Hope Street Strategies LLC (“Scrypt Wallet,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) and govern your use of the Scrypt Wallet web application, browser and mobile applications, the Scrypt ID sign-in and naming service, Scrypt Bridge, this website, and related services (together, the “Services”).
By downloading, accessing, or using the Services, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
The short version
- Scrypt Wallet is self-custodial. You alone hold your private keys and secret recovery phrase. We can never access your wallet, move or freeze your funds, or reverse a transaction.
- If you lose your recovery phrase or recovery keys, your funds are gone and no one — including us — can recover them.
- Blockchain transactions are final and irreversible. Always double-check addresses, amounts, and networks before you sign.
- We are not a bank, broker, exchange, money transmitter, custodian, or investment adviser. We give no financial, legal, or tax advice.
- Swaps, bridging, buy/sell on-ramps, and connected dApps are run by third parties under their own terms. We do not control them.
- The Services are provided “as is,” without warranties, and our liability is limited as set out below.
- You are responsible for your own taxes and for using the Services lawfully in your jurisdiction.
1. Eligibility & your account
You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live) and legally able to enter into these Terms. You may not use the Services if you are located in, or are a resident or national of, any jurisdiction subject to comprehensive sanctions, or if you are on any restricted-party list. You are responsible for complying with all laws that apply to you.
You can use the core wallet without an account. If you create a Scrypt ID or add an email and password for “Legacy Login,” you are responsible for keeping those credentials secure and for all activity that occurs under them.
↑ Back to top2. Self-custody and your keys
Scrypt Wallet is non-custodial software. Your secret recovery phrase, per-chain recovery keys, wallet password, and PIN are generated and stored on your device and are never transmitted to us. We do not have, and cannot obtain, a copy of them.
You are solely responsible for:
- Securely backing up your recovery phrase and keys offline, and never sharing them with anyone;
- The security of every device on which you use the Services;
- All transactions you sign and everything done with your keys, including by anyone who obtains them.
If you lose access to your recovery phrase and keys, your funds are permanently lost. We cannot reset a password, restore a wallet, or recover funds. Scrypt Wallet, its staff, and its contractors will never ask you for your recovery phrase, keys, password, or PIN — anyone who does is trying to steal from you.
↑ Back to top3. What we are not
We provide software that lets you interact with public blockchains yourself. We do not take custody or control of your digital assets at any time. We are not a bank, trust company, broker-dealer, exchange, money services business, money transmitter, custodian, payment processor, or investment adviser, and nothing in the Services should be read as creating any such relationship or any fiduciary, agency, advisory, or trustee duty to you.
↑ Back to top4. Licence to use the Services
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the Services for your own lawful, non-commercial use. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, resell, or create derivative works from the Services except to the extent that restriction is prohibited by law or permitted by an applicable open-source licence, and you may not use the Services to build a competing product, scrape or bulk-download data, or circumvent security or rate limits.
↑ Back to top5. Transactions, networks & fees
When you sign a transaction, it is broadcast to a public blockchain that we do not operate or control. Transactions are irreversible once confirmed. We cannot cancel, reverse, refund, or recover a transaction, including one sent to a wrong or unintended address, on the wrong network, or as a result of a bug, phishing, or a malicious dApp.
Blockchain networks charge their own network / gas fees, which vary and are outside our control. Scrypt Wallet may also charge a service fee on certain features (for example swaps, bridging, or paid Scrypt ID names); where a fee applies it is shown to you before you confirm. Third-party providers (below) may charge their own fees and spreads.
Prices, balances, token metadata, and other blockchain data shown in the Services come from third-party nodes and indexers and may be delayed, incomplete, or inaccurate. Do not rely on them as the sole basis for a decision.
↑ Back to top6. Third-party services
The Services let you access features operated by independent third parties, including token swap and DEX aggregators, cross-chain bridges, fiat on-ramps and off-ramps, staking and lending venues, WalletConnect and in-app dApps, and blockchain RPC nodes and explorers (including any custom node you configure). We do not own or control these services, do not endorse them, and are not responsible for their availability, performance, fees, security, or conduct. Your use of them is governed by their own terms and privacy policies, and any dispute is between you and that provider.
↑ Back to top7. Scrypt ID & names
Scrypt ID lets you register a human-readable .scrypt name and link wallet
addresses to it for easier payments and sign-in. Your first name is free; additional
names may carry a fee shown before purchase. Names are provided on a first-come,
first-served basis and may be reclaimed or refused if they infringe a trademark,
impersonate a person or organisation, are used for fraud or abuse, or violate these
Terms. Linking an address to a name does not verify ownership of that address unless a
verification step is completed, and a name resolving to an address is not a guarantee that
the address is correct or safe.
8. Scrypt Bridge & wrapped assets
Scrypt Bridge lets you move value between a native chain and a wrapped representation on another chain (for example LKY and wLKY). Wrapped assets carry additional risks, including smart-contract risk, bridge-operator and key-management risk, loss of peg, and network congestion or halts. A deposit address issued by the bridge is single-use and tied to the receiving wallet you specify; sending the wrong asset, wrong amount, or funds from an unexpected address may result in permanent loss. You use the bridge at your own risk.
↑ Back to top10. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Services to:
- break any law or regulation, or facilitate activity that does;
- launder money, finance terrorism, evade sanctions, or transact with sanctioned persons or jurisdictions;
- defraud, deceive, or steal from anyone, or engage in market manipulation;
- infringe intellectual property or privacy rights;
- distribute malware, phish, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to any system, wallet, or account;
- overload, disrupt, or probe the Services or their infrastructure, or bypass rate limits or access controls;
- misrepresent your identity or affiliation, including through a Scrypt ID name.
11. Taxes
You are solely responsible for determining what taxes apply to your transactions and for reporting and paying them. We do not provide tax advice and do not withhold or remit taxes on your behalf.
↑ Back to top12. No professional advice
Nothing in the Services is financial, investment, legal, accounting, or tax advice, or a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any asset. Digital assets are volatile and can lose all of their value. You are responsible for your own research and decisions.
↑ Back to top13. Intellectual property
The Scrypt Wallet and Scrypt ID names and logos, the website, and the design and original content of the Services are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. Except for the limited licence above, no rights are granted to you. Some components are made available under open-source licences, which continue to apply to those components.
↑ Back to top14. Changes to the Services or these Terms
We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Services at any time. Because the Services are self-custodial, you can always access your funds directly on-chain using your recovery phrase and keys, independently of our software or website.
We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date shows when. Material changes will be signalled in the app or on this page. Continuing to use the Services after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
↑ Back to top15. Suspension & termination
You may stop using the Services at any time. We may limit, suspend, or terminate your access to the Services (including a Scrypt ID name or Legacy Login) if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or to protect the Services or other users. Termination does not affect your ownership of your keys or your ability to access your funds on-chain.
↑ Back to top16. Disclaimers
The Services are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Services will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, that blockchain data shown will be accurate, or that any defect will be corrected.
We are not responsible for losses arising from: your loss or disclosure of your recovery phrase, keys, password, or PIN; transactions you sign, including to a wrong address or network; phishing, scams, or malicious dApps, tokens, or contracts; failures, forks, re-orgs, congestion, or attacks on any blockchain; or the acts, omissions, downtime, or insolvency of any third-party service.
↑ Back to top17. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, in no event will Hope Street Strategies LLC or its officers, employees, or contractors be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or digital assets, arising out of or relating to the Services or these Terms, whether based in contract, tort, strict liability, or otherwise, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the Services or these Terms will not exceed the greater of (a) the total service fees you paid us for the Services in the three months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) US $100.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you; in that case our liability is limited to the smallest extent permitted by law.
↑ Back to top18. Indemnification
You will indemnify and hold harmless Hope Street Strategies LLC and its officers, employees, and contractors from any claim, demand, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the Services, your violation of these Terms or any law, or your infringement of any third party’s rights.
↑ Back to top19. Governing law & disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Rhode Island, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and, where applicable, by the Federal Arbitration Act.
Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Services that cannot be resolved informally will be settled by binding individual arbitration administered by a recognised arbitration provider, seated in Providence, Rhode Island, in English. You and we each waive any right to a jury trial and to participate in a class or representative action. Either party may still bring an individual claim in small-claims court, and either party may seek injunctive relief in court to protect intellectual property or Services security. If the class-action waiver is found unenforceable, the arbitration agreement is void as to that claim only.
↑ Back to top20. General
These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Services. If any provision is unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them to an affiliate or successor. There are no third-party beneficiaries. Headings are for convenience only. We are not liable for any failure or delay caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
