What non-custodial actually means here
Your BQC private key is generated and encrypted on your own device when you create a Scrypt Wallet — Scrypt Wallet itself never holds your BQC and can't move it on your behalf. That's the point of self-custody, and it's also why losing your recovery information is unrecoverable by anyone else: there's no account-recovery team that can restore access the way a custodial exchange could.
What backup actually protects
A backup is what lets you restore your BQC wallet on a new device if you lose or replace your current one — it doesn't protect against a transaction you already confirmed, which can't be reversed once broadcast. Scrypt Wallet supports recovering access using your individual coin keys, without needing a single master mnemonic tying every coin together. Keep whatever recovery information you're given somewhere durable and offline, and never enter it into anything other than Scrypt Wallet itself.
What to watch for
